Le fantôme réel is about the reality of the image and about the painting as an illusionary ‘window’ to a ‘another reality’. On the one hand the viewer is invited to look into the painting looking for depth, on the other hand the viewer’s gaze is pulled out of this invitation and is confronted with the physical aspects of the material. Here, dirt and marks of previous users/owners of the found material define the human-material network in time.
